Mendi helps you train your brain to focus, relax, and self-regulate; using safe, proven science.
The Mendi headband uses a technology called functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS).
This non-invasive method measures blood flow and oxygenation in your prefrontal cortex (PFC); the area of the brain involved in focus, decision-making, and emotional balance.
The Science Behind It
When you concentrate, relax, or manage your thoughts, the neurons in your prefrontal cortex become more active.
Active neurons require more oxygen, so your body naturally increases blood flow to that area.
Mendi’s sensors use gentle near-infrared light to detect these changes in oxygen-rich blood beneath the surface of your skin.
This information is then translated into the visual feedback you see in the free Mendi app.
When your brain activity becomes more balanced and focused, that feedback signal strengthens; showing you, in real time, that your brain is self-regulating more effectively.
The Feedback Loop
Each Mendi session creates a real-time feedback loop between your mind and the app:
You focus or relax; activating your prefrontal cortex.
Mendi measures changes in blood oxygenation.
The app visualizes those changes as feedback.
Your brain learns to repeat the patterns associated with calm focus.
This process is called neurofeedback; a form of brain training shown to improve attention, emotional control, and self-regulation through consistent practice.
What You’re Training
Mendi helps strengthen your prefrontal cortex, which plays a key role in managing attention, emotions, and mental energy.
Over time, this training can help you feel more focused, calm, and balanced; both during sessions and in daily life.⁷
In Short
Mendi measures blood flow and oxygenation in your prefrontal cortex.
The app gives you real-time feedback as your brain becomes more focused.
Regular practice helps your brain learn better self-regulation; like exercise for your mental fitness.
